Easter Sunday is March 28, 2027, two weeks after Alachua County’s spring break. The 2027 egg hunts and brunches are not out yet. Last year Gainesville’s Easter weekend included a two-day family Eggstravaganza at a brewery, a doggie egg hunt, a garden-inn brunch and a BMX egg hunt in High Springs.

Easter brunch

In 2026 the Sweetwater Branch Inn, the historic inn at 625 E. University Ave. downtown, served an Easter brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Easter Sunday, with reservations required. Services and concerts

In 2026 Unity of Gainesville, 8801 NW 39th Ave., held an Easter concert, “Bloom,” at 11 a.m. on Easter Sunday. For service times, including sunrise services, check your congregation’s own website.

What is open and closed

  • City of Gainesville offices and trash: Easter is not on the city’s holiday list, so services run as usual.
  • Cade Museum: closed on Easter.
  • Kanapaha Botanical Gardens: open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays; it closes only on Thursdays, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
  • Schools: Alachua County Public Schools are closed Monday, March 29, for a student holiday and teacher workday.
