Public schools in Gainesville are run by Alachua County Public Schools, governed by the School Board of Alachua County, not by the city. The district office is at 620 E. University Ave., 352-955-7300. Attendance zones do not follow city limits: several schools with a Gainesville mailing address sit in unincorporated Alachua County, and one high school that serves the north end of the city, Santa Fe High, is in the city of Alachua.

The zones are new this year. The School Board approved a right-sizing plan, announced in a district news release on March 13, 2026, that redrew elementary, middle and high school zones for 2026-27, the first districtwide rezoning since 2003. The plan closed Foster Elementary at the end of the 2025-26 school year and projects closing Williams Elementary at the end of 2027-28, when Lincoln Middle is to become a K-8 school.

The tables list every public school serving Gainesville in alphabetical order. “Students” is the federal count for 2023-24, the latest year published. “2026 state grade” is Florida’s A to F school grade for 2025-26, with the share of possible points in parentheses; each grade links to the school’s state report card.
